Right! There's this great quote that says "if we don't give people a path to redemption, then they will go towards a place where they will be accepted." I will never forget that. Cancelling or calling out through blame and shame can potentially backfire by reinforcing original behaviour/ beliefs more strongly or radicalize such beliefs :(

Furthermore, as I draw from the late Iris Marion Young (who I absolutely love), she talks about social justice as a collective project where we all have a responsibility to partake in. No one individual is responsible, all of us are. So how can we work together to help one another understand and reach our collective goal (which I would argue is of utmost benefit to all). She has a variety of political theory work and in particular this empathetic intellectualism comes from her book "Responsibility for Justice." Some may call is too idealistic but I think it's beautiful and sometime we should strive for.
